Patchwork Sashiko Class

Learn how to transform your scraps into a beautiful new textile!  Recently taught at Quiltcon 2022, Diana will teach you how to start with a stack of scraps and create a stable and pliable piece of art with which to do whatever you like.  This is a methods class, and you will not finish the textile, but learn the method to complete on your own.

Kit and Pattern are sold separately and are required for the class.

The kit contains a curated collection of 12 fabrics already cut to size, 2 needles, thread for slow stitching, muslin and lightweight interfacing.  Once you learn the method, you can then choose to use your own fabrics in any size you like.

Patchwork Sashiko Kits will be brought on the day of the class.  There will be 4-5 color palettes to choose from.

Instructor: Diana Li Fitzgerald
Instructor Bio: Diana Li Fitzgerald has been sewing for 16+ years; designing patterns and experimenting with different sewing techniques. She opened her Etsy shop, Banjoflannel, in 2006 while still in graduate school after she saw a purse that she liked, but thought it could use some design changes. She drew a sketch, created a pattern, and sat down at a sewing machine for the first time. Now, she is taking her designs one step further to focus on the textiles themselves. Her Patchwork Sashiko Method is one that was developed over time through experimentation and is a versatile piece to showcase on its own or in a favorite pattern. She has a strong connection to Kansas City and Parkville, MO in particular. She grew up in this area and still has family and friends in town whom she visits regularly. Her former life in biomedical research and biotech has given her unique skills to apply to her new career as pattern designer and instructor. She currently teaches her patterns and methods at The Bernina Connection in Phoenix as well as online and was recently chosen to be on the faculty at Quiltcon 2022, an event organized by the Modern Quilt Guild (MQG). She continues to write patterns and stay active in the sewing community online and in person.
