Open Wide 2.0 Bag

In this class we will be making the Open Wide bag by Patterns ByAnnie.

The pattern makes three different sizes of bags. You may choose to make whichever size you desire, however, we recommend the medium or large bag for this class. You should plan to have all fabric and stabilizers cut out and  quilted Sets A and B  completed before the class.  The class will focus on assembling the project.

The pattern and all supplies are available at The Fabric Chic

Supplies Needed:

Open Wide Bag pattern

Materials needed: follow the pattern guidelines for the size you choose to make. Note: The exterior, lining and coordinating fabric requirements are the same for the Medium and Large sizes.

For the medium bag, you will need the following:
1/2 yard of fabric for exterior
1/2 yard of fabric for lining
1/2 yard of coordinating fabric

1/2 yard by 58" ByAnnie's Soft and Stable foam interfacing
1/4 yard lightweight woven fusible interfacing (such as SF101)

12" x 12" Mesh for inner pockets

One 15" or longer, single slide handbag zipper

1.5 yards fold over elastic

Optional:

11" - 12" of 1" - 1.5" decorative ribbon (if you would like to incorporate it into the accent strip on the bag.

For the large bag, you will need the following:
1/2 yard of fabric for exterior
1/2 yard of fabric for lining
1/2 yard of coordinating fabric

1/2 yard by 58" ByAnnie's Soft and Stable foam interfacing
1/8 yard if lightweight woven fusible interfacing (such as SF101)

16" x 14" Mesh for inner pockets

One 18" or longer, single slide handbag zipper

1.5 yards fold over elastic

Optional:

13" - 14" of 1" - 1.5" decorative ribbon (if you would like to incorporate it into the accent strip on the bag.

You can use fold over elastic to bind the inner mesh pockets, or you can bind with quilting cotton, either matching or contrast to your bag.  If you decide to use fabric, you will need  to cut two 2" x width of fabric strip for binding.

You will need Soft and Stable or Bosal foam stabilizer.  The foam is sandwiched between the main fabric and the lining fabric and quilted to give the bag structure.

You will also need general sewing supplies such as a sewing machine with a zipper foot and a walking foot, thread to coordinate (there is quilting and top stitching), snips, rotary cutter, scissors, pins, clips, seam ripper etc. You will need a marking pen that shows up on your fabric ( a dark pen for light fabric and vice versa, so you may need both) If you prefer to finish the binding by hand, you will need a hand sewing needle and a thimble and any other supplies you like to have handy when you sew.

RECOMMENDED:  Wonder clips and a sturdy stiletto are very handy for making this bag.

You will need an acrylic ruler at least 12” long.
