We'll guide you step-by-step through the construction of a stylish and durable tote, focusing on three key skills:
- Adding Handles: Learn to align and secure handles to ensure your bag can handle any load.
- Securing Seams with Binding: Discover the magic of seam binding! This technique not only strengthens the interior seams of your bag for added durability but also gives the inside a beautiful, neat, and professional finish.
- Finishing the Top Edge: Finish the bag's top opening, learning how to bind around the circular opening.
By the end of this class, you'll have a fantastic quilted tote bag and the confidence to apply these valuable finishing techniques to all your future sewing projects!
Prerequisite: You should be comfortable operating a sewing machine, sewing a straight line, sewing curved seams, and reading basic pattern instructions. Fabric needs to be quilted prior to class!
Suggested Materials to Bring:
- Pre-quilted Sandwich measuring 30” x 40”- Cotton canvas works great for the outside and quilting cotton is fine for the inside.
- ¼ yard of binding fabric
- 3- ½ yards of 1” cotton or nylon webbi g for handles
