Intro to Foundation Paper Piecing

Join us for an intro into the "not so scary" world of foundation paper piecing. We will sew upside down on paper and make some cool 6" blocks! Sizing your fabric pieces, sewing on the foundation paper, trimming and pressing will all be included.

We will provide the 4 different foundation papers you will use in class.

You should be able to complete 2-4 different blocks during class. They can be joined together for a cute mini-quilt, or finished individually to make mug rugs!

Using your new skills, you will be able to move forward with other foundation paper pieced projects.

Supplies:

  • Sewing machine (don't forget your power cord and foot control)
  • Neutral thread in a 50 weight.
  • Basic sewing supplies (scissors, seam ripper, pins, rotary cutter, etc)
  • Mid size ruler to trim 6" blocks (3x12, 2x12, and 9x9 are all good options)
  • Fabric scraps or curated fabric you'd like to use in your blocks. (Pieces should be no smaller than 2.5"x5". We will use larger pieces also. Make sure to include contrasting lights and darks. The more fabric to choose from the better!)
  • Glue stick  - an Elmer's schoolglue stick or a Sewline fabric gluepen work well (Available at The Fabric Chic)
  • Add a Quarter Plus Ruler - 12 in (Available at The Fabric Chic)
  • Clover Finger Presser #495 (Available at The Fabric Chic)
