Winter Bella Sew Along/Sew Day

Join us for a fun day creating your own Winter Bella wall hanging!  This is a sew along - we will be there to help answer questions and guide you through the process, but we will also be sewing one too!

Supplies needed:

Winter Bella Portrait Quilt Pattern by Laurie Ceesay.  Each participant must have their own pattern. No sharing or photocopies allowed. Patterns available at the shop.

Materials needed as outlined on the pattern:

  • Twenty four 5" squares from ONE color family in a range of values from white (tone on tone prints) to medium shades.  NO DARK VALUES. (Angel suggests bringing extra 5" squares)
  • 1/2 yd DARK colored batik (navy, black, dark gray)
  • scraps of fabric for eye (white and iris color)
  • scrap for optional different mouth color (red for example)
  • backing fabric/binding fabric
  • fusible web (Angel recommends Wonder Under)
  • low loft batting
  • threads to match dark batik and background
  • erasable marking pens/marking pen - (bring what you have!)

 * Optional: foundation paper, tweezers, lint brush

Sewing machine in good working order (don't forgt power cord and pedal), scissors, rotary cutter, stiletto, and other tools you like to use when sewing or quilting.

(A stiletto is recommended as you will be sewing over tiny pieces that like to move and the stiletto will keep your fingers out of the way of the needle.)

You will be quilting your project during the sew along so please remember to bring your batting and backing, basting pins, and thread.

This pattern has some parts that are very time consuming so I am requesting you finish a small portion before you come to the sew along so that we can move right into the making of your wall hanging and you will have more time with me to ask questions.

Before you arrive, please trace the pattern pieces onto your Wonder Under adhesive and then iron it onto your dark batik fabric.  Do NOT over iron the adhesive or it will lose its tackiness.   The instructions will help you with the correct length of time.

Do not forget to write any notes on your pattern pieces that the pattern has.  Those help you match up your points later.

After you have ironed onto the batik please take some sharp, pointed scissors and cut the pieces out.   There are lots of little curves, so it takes a while.  Just go slow. Leave the back of the adhesive on the pieces until class.
