Exploration of Color Use - the X and Plus Quilt Block

This simple X and Plus block allows us to explore color and layout combinations that look much more complicated than they are!
Yes- we will be sewing quilt blocks- but this class will first focus on color & design....contrast, value, combinations for construction, & mixing Quilt elements.

YOU WILL NEED:

A Sewing Machine in good working order
A Rotary cutter & cutting ruler at least 12 inches long
All of the sewing notions that you generally use - pins, seam ripper, thread, etc.

The Pattern will be provided in class, as well as 1 sample block ready to sew.

FABRIC:
COLOR PLANNING is one area of the Quilt making process where some are often challenged.  We plan to spend a lot of time working with color in this class, so I don't want to give too many hard and fast fabric measurements.  This is a process class & you may change your mind some as we go along!  Here are 3 options for fabric:

1.  If you have an ample scrap bin, this is a great class to use it!  You may want to pull out some of your larger scraps and press them prior to class to save time.  OR....
2.  If you have a favorite designer- you may want to bring FQ's of several of their fabrics- in color groups of 3 each- ie: 3 Kaffe purples (florals and stripes), 3 Kaffe greens, 3 Kaffe blues, etc.  You will want these to be of various hues and designs.
3.  you may have a FQ bundle of 16-20 fabrics that you've been saving for just the right project- if so, bring them along and we will see if they work!
In addition to the above, you will need some low volume background fabric.  1-3 prints should do to start.
The amount of fabric needed for borders, binding, backing will vary according to the size you decide to finish- so those can wait.

Skill Level: intermediate
Skill Details: This block is easy to make & probably suitable for a beginner. Basic sewing knowledge is needed, as we will skim over sewing terms and spend more time on Color & Design.
Instructor: Merrie Ford
Instructor Bio: Merrie has been quilting for 40 years and LOVES the color planning process! She is continually taking classes, as well as teaching them and loves to share any new tip she learns. She spends most of her time planning how to incorporate Brown into Modern quilts, sewing for Grandchildren or shopping for more fabric anywhere that she might be traveling. She also loves Chocolate - feel free to bring some.
