Modern Tunic

This class will use the THE TUNIC BIBLE book by Sarah Gunn and Julie Starr.  The Tunic Patterns in this book can be used to make a variety of shirts, tunics and dresses - so once you have a fitted pattern, you have the potential for many more wardrobe staples.

During this class we will construct a tunic from woven material.  (no knits)
The tunic is fairly simple- with bust darts, but no openings such as zippers or buttons, as it pulls over your head.

Skill Level: Advanced Beginner
Requirements: Needed for Class: Purchase the book. The Fabric Chic will have the book available at a discount to those taking the class. *Determine your size - Use bust measurement for the tunic we will be making. Sizes range from XS-XXL. As an example, I normally take a size 12 top, my bust measurement was just over 40.5 and the large fits me perfectly, with a bit of ease. *Trace pattern in your size or let me know your size and I will provide pattern traced on tracing paper for $3 *Purchase fabric - fabric requirements are on page 41 of the book. I have used various fabric types for this pattern. The tunic I am wearing in the picture is made from Cotton & Steel double gauze and I love it! It's soft and comfy and light weight. I’ve also used a heavier linen, light weight denim, liberty of London cotton, denim lace, lace eyelet..... you get the picture. Essex linen, or a chambray or lawn would also work well. *WASH AND DRY YOUR FABRIC then press before class so you don’t have to worry about your garment shrinking. *Purchase 1/4 yard interfacing, I use Pellon shape flex 101, any light or medium weight apparel interfacing will work. *Marking tool - Frixion pen, disappearing ink, quilt pencil, your choice of marking tool will work *thread, based on fabric choice. You can use polyester thread for polyester fabric, I use Aurifil for all woven fabrics. *Scissors, pins, ruler, rotary cutter (optional), small scissors, seam ripper, iron We will be making the Inside Facing elongated Placket tunic with bias neckline finish (Page 73)
